For Funsies, vol. 4

Hello, friends! How have you been? I have been crazy, crazy at work with some new but necessary changes in the way we manage projects for our clients. We capped the week off at the office with a patio party which is the way all crazy weeks at the office would be capped off if it was up to this girl.

Josh and I finally made it out to our first Farmers Market of the season yesterday. We are borrowing our friend's sit and stand stroller and Josh drove it for the first time. It is kind of a big beast to maneuver around large crowds but both Dexter and Evy seemed to love it. And when I say they "loved it" I mean that Dexter didn't complain about having to ride in it and Evy fell asleep.

Market Day is back. I only made it out one time last year and I was with Dexter so as you can imagine I didn't get to window shop very much. Hoping to check it out this year!

A few weeks ago, I was up nursing Evy and was on my phone making the round through twitter, instagram and my feedly. I stumbled upon Stitch Fix. Yada, yada, yada, my first fix is suppose to arrive June 18. I'll update you on how it goes!

For Funsies, vol. 2

 Hello, friends! Hope you're having a nice week so far. I'm in the final stretch of my maternity leave. Yesterday, one of my old friends came by and brought snacks while we binge watched Grey's Anatomy. It felt like high school...except with a baby. It's nice to have that kind of day though, free and easy.

I'm both ready and nervous about returning to work.  Six weeks is long and short, you know? I have no idea what our new routine at home is going to look like and am trying to brainstorm ways to save time in the morning since I have a feeling that's going to be the most chaotic. If you have any tips or tricks, let me know!

And now onto the randomness!

I spotted this latest parenting article on twitter last week and see that it's making its rounds. Check out the playground. Would you let your kid play here?

Our friends invited us to the zoo last week and of course despite my best laid plans of having Evy sleep through the entire thing, she woke up demanding to be fed. So I nursed in public for the very first time ever. And you know what? Not so bad. I covered up with a blanket and parked myself on a bench next to the lion exhibit. How primal! A little awkward when a Girl Scout Troop went parading by and even more awkward when our friend's little boy asked HOW I was feeding her if I was just holding her. Er, it's called nursing and it's how little babies eat...now run along? Overall though, there was something very I am woman, hear me roar about it. I think if this is going to be my thing I'd like one of these.

You longtime readers know how much I enjoy the Avett Brothers and I like that they visit Iowa so
much. Coming to Sioux City this time! Not sure if we'll be going since it most likely will fall during 80/35 and we do have a good history and lots of good adventures with that music festival. Related-love this song, love this print.

These days I go to buckle Evy in her car seat, swing, bouncy seat and I find that the buckle has already been done. Dexter was here. It's like his calling card. He likes to do the snap on my iPad case, tries to get the zipper on his coat, lace up his fast shoes. Have you seen these Quiet books? They look like they might be his cup of tea. I also wonder if I can get Joshie to make him something similar to this.

A couple of recipes that I've tried out-brown butter sage sauce and this monkey bread (photo above).  Note about the monkey bread, it took longer to bake than what the recipe says. My outside was perfect but we had to throw the inside back in the oven.

Finally, pouring one out for my homies. This article goes out to all my DU friends at UNI. And a very special shoutout to my pal who many moons ago found the love of her life whilst sipping on OE. Ya heard me?

For Funsies, vol. 1

How's your week going? Evy and I visited my office earlier this week. It was weird after being away for so long. It almost felt like I was a guest in someone else's home. We chatted with a few of my co-workers and in conversation it became very clear that I am terrible at selling the whole baby thing. I'm just awful at describing this time as "special" or "magical". Is mothering this babe important work? Absolutely! Would I compare it to rainbows and prancing unicorns? Never. I felt like I was debunking some great myth. That all women love babies and the six weeks are so freaking amazing and precious. I am Lora and I speak for the trees? Truth! Sorry, not sorry?

Anyway, here's a little roundup of randomness for you to peruse because it's the middle of the work week for you kids. Isn't it? It's Wednesday, right? I wouldn't know. Evy and I have been so busy sliding down rainbows and saddling up our unicorns these past weeks that all the days just run together.

I've made these puffed pancakes a few times. This weekend I had them with Nutella because it's important to make things less healthy.

I don't wear much jewelry but would love to have one of these necklaces for all the immediate Thiessens in my life.

I call Evy "girl" a lot. So I sing this song to her.

If Dexter could take a selfie, he would. He's the biggest smallest narcissist I know. If we take a picture, he always grabs the phone and says "I wanna see". This camera would be great for him. Also, if he's pretending to take our picture, he pretends to rip off the snapshot from the camera and hand it to us to put in our pocket. Apparently, the kid knows about Polaroid cameras?

Dexter loves Super Why! I love Super Why! This costume is great.

This article really stuck with me.

I am using this Breastfeeding app. It doesn't answer the question of why is my baby spitting up constantly and still acting super hungry? Or how do I get her to go longer between feedings? But it keeps track of the last feeding time, so there's that.

I think I want to do something like this in my cube at work.
