One of these things is not like the Other

Being a homeowner is sweet and so is replacing rotting deck boards.

Here's the old board. I thought our little Sudsy was going to fall through it one of these days! The deck has been in disrepair for awhile but with a weekend of house to-dos looming ahead of us, Josh decided it was time to tackle this task.

Oooh, pretty!

Maybe I have a green thumb after all...*

These are flourishing in our backyard.

*Just don't ask me about the zinnias on our front steps.

What Have Yahs Wednesday

1. Not your grandpas weather site! Check out this website it is like a pimped out Weather.com. Pretty cool if you want your weather delivered Xzibit style.

2. Only 37 more days until Hawkeye football.

3. Another music video for your enjoyment. I think this is appropriate given the unfortunate passing of the "King of Pop" The video is pretty funny, the song is catchy and the guy can really dance!

Back from Bix

Ready to run.

We got our Bix on this weekend and much to my surprise, it was enjoyable! Naturally, we had a mishap--Annie and I got separated at the starting line. Note to self: It's not so easy finding your running partner in a sea of 18,000 people when the meeting spot is "over there-ish on the other side of the street", go figure. I looked at Josh fearfully when the race began and Annie was nowhere in sight. Good hubby that he is, he ran with me all the way up Brady Street, even when I tried to tell him to "go on without me", and then as we parted ways, he was seven-mile bound and I was only two, he yelled, "I'm proud of you already!" Ha, he's so funny!

And with that, I ran the whole Quick Bix with my girls Kate Nash, Ingrid Michaelson, Lady Sovereign, and Lily Allen singing back up on my ipod for the first half of the race. Then I made my way to the finish line with Bubba Sparxxx and Black Eyed Peas cheering me on. What strange running music! It kept me going though, so if I need to continue listening to sassy brits, folksy girls and songs that are about the booty (that's where Bubba Sparxxx and BEP came in; do you know which songs I'm talking about?), to keep me running, then so be it!

Where did we find each other after the race? The beer tent, of course.

Running Scared

We're about to head off to Davenport to (gasp!) run in the Bix. This seven-mile race draws the BEST of the best in the running game and when I say the BEST, I am not exaggerating. To put it plainly, the first ten runners to finish are always Kenyan, 'nuff said. Anyway, a few months ago my dear cousin-through-marriage, Annie said, "We should just do the Quick Bix. It's only two miles." I laughed nervously and said "Sure, why not?"

Now with only half a day between me and Brady Street hill, I'm still laughing nervously. True, two miles isn't a big deal for normal, well-exercised people. For me, my short Asian legs, and my heart that beats as fast as a field mouse when its resting, this is a HUGE deal. I'm a wimp, I know. I went ahead and bought some very official looking track shorts at Scheel's this week. I figure I can at least look the part when I'm huffing and puffing up and down the hill.

Bix Race Route. Josh is doing the seven-mile with my dear cousin Andrew. See you at the beer tent, boys!

What have yahs Wednesday

A quick list of things I think you should know about.

1: Listen to this now! I know this isn't new but Lora and I are going to see them among many other bands in Austin, TX for the 2009 ACL festival an I can't get enough.

2: I heard a fact the other day that was pretty shocking to me. Did you know that fewer than 10% of blind Americans can read braille?

3: I might be on the tail end of my graphic tee days but until I feel it is necessary to stop wearing them you will see me in them. I saw this one and am considering adding it to my collection.

First Post, First Toast

Having both penned our own individual blogs for a couple of years and/or months, and then falling off the face of the blogosphere in the most recent months, Josh and I have decided to begin a new chapter and do what I never thought would be possible...write together. That's right, friends, we are co-writing this blog. Naturally, we won't be actually sitting down together to post, (that's asking far too much of my control freak nature), but for the price of one blog, you'll get twice the posts and get to see what both of us are up to, what we're into and what we're over. So as my first post, first toast, here's to trying new things!

Okoboji 2008. Bottoms up for the first green mystery shot. What was it called?
Anyway, it's good to try new things, right?
