On the joy of writing and this blog

 via here

I don't get to write at my job. Well, I do, sort of. But I promise it's not nearly as fun as the tales I spin here. Worthwhile? Absolutely. Fun? Meh. I mean, really who wouldn't want to see pictures of babies dressed as alien robots, and read about red jeans and brussel sprouts ? If those aren't riveting topics, I don't know what are.

This blog started out as a way to keep our friends and family updated on our lives...but that's not why it continues. I show up here and write because I like it.  When I was younger, my dad suggested that I become a writer. I don't think he had any concrete evidence on which to base his opinion; no shining examples of work that would say this girl's talent for the written word is oozing out of her ears. I think he maybe just saw that it was something that brought me joy.

And so in the name of joy, I show up to write a few things down that I think are worth remembering when all is said and done. I show up to ramble and reflect. To share and to savor.

I hope that reading this blog gives you as much joy as I get from writing it. All five of you. ;)

If you give a girl a day or three off..

She will redesign her blog. It started out innocently enough, she just wanted to tinker around with the header a little and remove some of the old unused tabs. It was a slippery slope, friends and suddenly she was messing around with different templates, backgrounds and colors. In true conservative fashion, after all that editing, she ended up with a white background and gray text. She did update the About section though which by far was the easiest part of the entire process. And the one thing that was not part of her original redesign plan.

Raise my glass 5.27.10

I'd like to raise my glass to...

Glee went Gaga this week and for this girl it brought together the best of both worlds. Josh can't handle the show but every week I turn off the TV wistfully thinking if only my life were a musical. Then, I remember that this would probably require me to carry some sort of a tune instead of the warbling that comes out of my mouth on my drive to work. Shucks.

I definitely do not blog it out like some of the ladies I follow (read: Jennifer and Amanda). There were just a handful of blogs that I was into, including theirs, but all that has changed since Jennifer dragged me kicking and screaming gently guided me through the Google Reader world. I feel like Alice in Wonderland tumbling further and further down the rabbit hole. Subscribing to one blog leads me to checking out another blog, which in turn leads to sharing an item. Oh, and since I'm waiting for a response to my shared item I should probably just check out the recommended items, and then the delicious but vicious cycle starts all over again. Thanks, Jennifer.

Pardon the mess

I'm in the middle of revamping this blog-o and I'm not completely HTML literate so it might take awhile. Excuse the links that go nowhere and other mishaps that may happen during this process.

First Post, First Toast

Having both penned our own individual blogs for a couple of years and/or months, and then falling off the face of the blogosphere in the most recent months, Josh and I have decided to begin a new chapter and do what I never thought would be possible...write together. That's right, friends, we are co-writing this blog. Naturally, we won't be actually sitting down together to post, (that's asking far too much of my control freak nature), but for the price of one blog, you'll get twice the posts and get to see what both of us are up to, what we're into and what we're over. So as my first post, first toast, here's to trying new things!

Okoboji 2008. Bottoms up for the first green mystery shot. What was it called?
Anyway, it's good to try new things, right?
